Military expert estimates the likelihood of a nuclear war between India and Pakistan

A nuclear war between India and Pakistan will not start. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on May 7 by a military expert, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin.
"I think that a nuclear war will not start between them, and they have been in conflict since independence," he said.
In addition, the expert assessed the military and nuclear potential of the two countries.
"India and Pakistan have about the same potential. And the number of nuclear warheads is also about the same — about 170-180 warheads on both sides," Litovkin said.
The military expert admitted that the aggravation of the situation between the two countries would gradually decrease. He also suggested that the conflict could be resolved with the help of other countries, as well as appeals to the UN Security Council.
"Nevertheless, for Pakistan, the closure of the Indus (New Delhi suspended the treaty on the waters of the Indus River — Ed.) is a very significant moment. Water (from Pakistan. — Ed.) will not happen," said the retired colonel.
He also recalled that, according to Pakistani media, India had lost five combat aircraft, including two expensive French Rafale aircraft.
On May 7, the Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor, during which nine attacks were carried out on Pakistan's terrorist infrastructure, as well as on a part of the territory of Jammu and Kashmir controlled by the country. Pakistan retaliated. According to the local Samaa TV channel, the country's air force shot down three Indian fighter jets, including two Rafale aircraft.
According to Geo News, 26 civilians were killed and 46 others were injured in Pakistan. India claims 10 dead and 48 injured as a result of Islamabad's actions.
On the same day, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced that the two nuclear-weapon states were approaching a major conflict amid the "reckless actions" of the Indian side.
