Stocks of last year's cars in Russia decreased by half

Of the 349,000 new passenger cars sold in the first 4 months of 2025, almost 290,000 units (82.6%) were produced in 2024 and earlier. Stocks of last year's new cars in warehouses decreased by about half. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on May 7 in his Telegram channel.
"Only one in six cars (17.4%) purchased by Russians in January-April was produced this year. In this regard, 2025 is the most lagging year in the last 20 years," Tselikov wrote.
The analyst cited large rolling stocks of dealer and distributor vehicles as the reason for this. Even more last year's cars were sold in 2009 alone, he noted.
Due to the replenishment of warehouses with fresh cars, the total stock remains almost at the level of the end of 2024. In January, the share of cars manufactured in 2025 in sales was 1%, in February — 8%, in March — 24%, and in April — 34%.
Earlier that day, it became known that by the end of April, 102.1 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 25.5% less than in the same month last year. Lada Granta has become the leader of the Russian car market among all passenger car models.
On April 29, Sergey Tselikov reported that according to the results of the first three months of 2025, stocks of new passenger cars in warehouses in Russia remained virtually unchanged and amounted to about 500 thousand units. In the first quarter, sales of new passenger cars in the Russian Federation amounted to 247 thousand units, during the same period 256 thousand new cars were imported into the country.
