The United Kingdom and the United States are nearing the conclusion of a trade agreement on reducing tariff quotas for steel and automobile exports from the United Kingdom, expected to be signed within a week. This was reported on May 6 by the Financial Times newspaper.

"The agreement, which is scheduled to be signed this week, should include quotas that will allow some British exporters to avoid the additional 25 percent duties that [US President Donald] Trump imposed steel and car imports in February and March," the statement said.

If a consensus is reached, Britain, for its part, undertakes to reduce the tax on digital services for the United States, as well as to ease tariffs on exports of automotive and agricultural products from the United States, the publication said.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on April 16 that the Trump administration expects to conclude a trade deal with the UK within three weeks. The publication noted that this was preceded by a prediction by US Vice President Jay Dee Vance that Trump would agree to an "excellent" trade agreement with the UK due to its "cultural proximity."
