The resumption of dialogue between Russia and the United States is an important step towards restoring trust. This was announced on May 6 by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Sergey Lukashevich in an interview with the Brazilian edition of O Mundo Diplomatico.

"The resumption of the dialogue process between Russia and the United States is an important step towards restoring mutual trust and finding mutually acceptable solutions. I would like such efforts to be systemic rather than fragmented," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.

According to him, with the political will of the parties concerned, peace can be restored in the foreseeable future. Lukashevich called the willingness of states to compromise, as well as the existence of an effective mechanism for monitoring compliance with agreements already reached, the key success factors.

The first Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus stressed that when talking about the prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, it is important to take into account, among other things, the root causes of the crisis. He pointed out the impossibility of establishing a sustainable peace without addressing the primary causes. In particular, the diplomat noted that dialogue between the parties is "vital."

Lukashevich said that Minsk is ready to continue providing assistance to continue negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and is interested in becoming a direct participant in the process.

"The voice of Belarus must necessarily be heard at the negotiating table, and the final agreements must take into account the interests of the Belarusian side," he concluded.

Alexey Polishchuk, Director of the Second CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on April 11 that Russia was open to discussing proposals for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, taking into account modern realities. He noted that Moscow and Kiev are conducting musical correspondence through embassies in Belarus. According to Polishchuk, the discussion is on legal and consular issues.
