The European Commission (EC) on Tuesday, May 6, may present the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the Politico newspaper, citing five unnamed diplomats.

"We can expect the inclusion of people and companies in the list, as well as more tankers of the shadow fleet <...>," the publication says on May 6.

The newspaper clarified that new goods would not be included in the 17th package of sanctions due to possible disagreements between European countries.

On February 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov drew attention to the fact that European countries are preparing new sanctions against the backdrop of the difficult situation of their own economies. He drew particular attention to the sharp rise in prices for Russian gas in Europe.

On February 24, the EU foreign ministers approved the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions list includes 48 individuals and 35 organizations. In addition, the EU foreign ministers decided to ban 13 banks from accessing the SWIFT system. Restrictions have also been imposed on the import of chromium, certain chemicals, and the maintenance of oil and gas refineries.
