- The political scientist pointed to the EU's demand for military discipline of countries against Russia.

The European Union (EU) requires countries to combine military discipline against Russia because of the prevailing logic of wartime unification. This was stated on May 5 in an interview with Izvestia by Vadim Trukhachev, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy at the Russian State University of Economics.
He recalled that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had repeatedly expressed their firm intention to visit Moscow to participate in the Victory Day Parade, despite numerous threats from Brussels.
"Slovakia is a member of the European Union and NATO, and they demand military discipline against Russia, since Russia has been declared the main enemy. Now the logic of wartime prevails, and Fico violates it. And this, of course, does not like him [the EU]. As for Vucic, Serbia is a candidate for the European Union, and candidates are now also required to have unconditional military discipline towards Russia," the political scientist said.
Trukhachev added that Serbia is considered a "Trojan horse of Russia" in the EU. The attitude towards Russia in Slovakia is not so fraternal, but still not bad, he recalled.
The expert questioned whether the firm position of Fico and Vucic could greatly influence the policy of European countries towards Russia.
There was no question about Serbia from the beginning — there are special relations between Russia and Serbia. There is no such special relationship between Russia and Slovakia, but if anyone from the European Union was expected, it was primarily Fico. It was clear that [Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor] Orban will not come because Hungary was at war on the other side," he concluded.
In December 2024, Vucic announced that he had agreed with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to go to the Victory Day Parade in the Russian capital on May 9, 2025.
On April 14, 2025, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kalla, threatened European leaders with consequences if they plan to visit Moscow on May 9 to participate in Victory Day celebrations. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called her warnings Eurocentrism.
On April 16, Fico announced that he would come to Moscow to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, despite the prohibitions of Callas. He announced plans to lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and take part in the Immortal Regiment march during his visit to Russia.
Later, on May 1, Vucic announced that he intended to visit Moscow on May 9, despite pressure from Brussels. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the threats from the European Union Eurocentrism.
