A Ukrainian soldier was convicted of obstructing the evacuation of residents of the Kursk region.

A serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VFU) was convicted of mining roads and obstructing the evacuation of civilians in the Kursk region. This was reported on May 5 in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (IC RF).

"The evidence collected by the military investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia has been recognized by the court as sufficient to convict Viktor Isaev, a junior sergeant in the grenade launcher squad at the Commandant's Office of Rapid Response in the Russian Far Eastern Federal University," the department's Telegram channel said.

The investigation established that Isaev, in a Rochelle Senator armored vehicle, illegally entered the territory of Russia in August 2024 with the aim of committing a terrorist act. He was armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and an automatic MK-19 machine-gun grenade launcher.

The soldier occupied observation and firing positions in the village of Apanasovka in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region and intimidated the local population. In addition, he mined roads and prevented the evacuation of civilians.

According to the press service of the department, Isaev was found guilty of committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region (paragraphs "a" and "b" of part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The court sentenced the military serviceman of the Far Eastern Federal University to 17 years in prison, with the first five years served in prison, and the rest in a high—security penal colony.

Earlier, on April 29, the court sentenced five Ukrainians to 11 to 14 years in prison for preparing a terrorist attack in Melitopol in the Zaporizhia region in 2022. Investigators found out that the attackers were voluntarily engaged in terrorist activities. They purchased and stored firearms, ammunition, explosive devices and explosives.
