An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred off the east coast of Taiwan. This was reported on May 5 by the China Times newspaper, citing the Central Meteorological Administration.
"The earthquake report of the Central Meteorological Department indicates that an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred today at 18:53 (13:53 Moscow time)," the publication says.
It is specified that the depth of the earthquake was 6.6 kilometers. The epicenter was located 33.7 kilometers southeast of Hualien County, located in eastern Taiwan.
In addition, the maximum seismic intensity was recorded in Hualien.
Earlier, on May 3, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 was recorded off the coast of Indonesia. The epicenter was located 165 km southwest of the city of Gorontalo, where 144 thousand people live. The source was located at a depth of 108 km.
