- The political scientist assessed the chances of Vance and Rubio for the presidency after Trump's departure

American leader Donald Trump is creating competition for Vice President Jay Dee Vance, speaking about the chances of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to win the next presidential election. On May 5, American political scientist Malek Dudakov told Izvestia.
According to him, the vice president is Trump's likely successor. However, the latter does not want to express unconditional support for Vance, the political scientist emphasized.
"Trump would not like to fully support Vance's nomination right now, so that he would not star in advance. Therefore, [Trump] is trying to compete with him, proposing the candidacy of Marco Rubio, who also most likely has presidential ambitions. Another thing is that Rubio doesn't have much chance of winning the Republican primaries," Dudakov said.
He also admitted that other politicians may become candidates from the Republican Party besides them. Among them may be those who do not have the best relations with Trump at the moment, the political scientist added. He cited Florida Governor Ron Desantis as an example.
"Obviously, there will be some competition in the Republican primaries in 2028, but right now, indeed, J.D. Vance is seen as the obvious favorite for the next election precisely as the candidate from the Republican Party," the expert summed up.
On May 4, in an interview with NBC News, when asked about a possible successor, Trump said that American Vice President Jay Dee Vance, as well as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, could become one.
In the same interview, the American president announced that he was not going to run for a third term. Trump also added that he does not intend to interfere in the selection of a future successor to the post of head of state.
