- The AFD challenged in court the decision of the German counterintelligence service to recognize it as extremist

The German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has sued the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany for the latter's decision to recognize the party as a right-wing extremist organization. This was announced on May 5 by Daniel Tapp, the press secretary of the AFD leader, in an interview with the DPA news agency.
The lawsuit was filed in the Cologne Administrative Court, TASS reports. It is clarified that the counterintelligence service did not respond to the demand, and the party subsequently appealed to the court.
The Bild newspaper reported on May 3 that AFD lawyers demanded that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution change the decision no later than May 5. Otherwise, the lawyers promised to file a complaint.
On May 2, it became known that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany classified the AfD as a right-wing extremist organization threatening democracy in the country. According to the authorities, this step reduces the obstacles to monitoring the party with the help of special services and allows for better control of its activities.
In turn, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov called the attacks on the AFD a sign of the beginning of the self-destruction of the state.
