The scientist reported an increase in the number of magnetic storms in 2025

The number of magnetic storms on Earth in the four months of 2025 has increased compared to last year, but the number of solar flares has decreased. This was announced on May 5 by the head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI). RAN Sergey Bogachev.

"On the contrary, the number of magnetic storms has increased dramatically this year. If from January to April 2024 there were only eight days with storms, then in the first four months of this year there were already 21 such days, that is 2.5 times more," Bogachev told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the main reason for this activity was the formation of coronal holes in the Sun, which were almost non-existent in 2024.

In addition, he also noted that solar flare activity has decreased by 15% in 2025. The scientist clarified that in the first four months of 2024, eight outbreaks of the highest X score were recorded, and this year — only five. The number of flashes with an average M score also decreased from 170 to 150.

Magnetic storms in April 2025: forecast and when they will end

Several moderate meteorological events are expected this month.

On April 21, Olga Ulankina, an expert at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia about self-help methods during magnetic storms. According to her, during this period, many people notice a deterioration in their well-being: headaches, weakness, pressure drops. To make this period easier for the body, it is necessary to reduce the stress on the nervous system.
