German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will retain his post in the new government of the country. This was reported by the BILD newspaper on May 5, citing sources.
"The cabinet of [co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Lars] Klingbeil has been approved. The Ministry of Defense: Boris Pistorius," the article says.
According to the publication, Klingbeil himself will become Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance. Chairman of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) Berbel Bas will become head of the Ministry of Labor, and former judge Stephanie Hubig will head the Ministry of Justice.
The deputy head of the parliamentary faction, Verena Hubertz, will take the post of Minister of Construction, and MP Reem Alabali-Radovan will become Minister of Economic Development. In addition, the Government's Commissioner for the Eastern Lands, Carsten Schneider, will become Minister of the Environment.
On April 30, the RND portal announced the approval by the SPD of a coalition agreement with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) bloc, paving the way for the creation of a new German government. It was clarified that the required quorum, that is, the minimum participation of 20% of the 358,000 SPD members, was met. At the same time, it was noted that the turnout was lower than expected — 56%. In turn, the approval rate of the agreement was 84.6%.
