Nicusor Dan overtook Antonescu and came in second place in the Romanian elections

In the first round of the Romanian presidential election, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, who holds a centrist position, came in second place after counting 97.57% of the votes. This was confirmed on the evening of May 4 by the data of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the state.

The leader of the presidential race remains the head of the nationalist Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) faction, Geordje Simion, who has gained 40.14% of the vote so far.

The third place is occupied by the candidate from the ruling coalition, Crina Antonescu, with a result of 20.64% of the vote.

The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to official sources, Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of the vote, but on November 28, the country's Constitutional Court demanded that the Central Election Commission recount the results. They were cancelled on December 6.

The second round will be held on May 18.
