Pakistan to appeal to UN Security Council amid growing escalation with India

Pakistan on Sunday, May 4, requested a meeting of the UN Security Council amid rising tensions with India.
"Pakistan is requesting a Security Council," a diplomatic source in the Security Council was quoted as saying by TASS.
At the same time, according to the source, the date of a possible meeting has not yet been determined.
Relations between India and Pakistan have worsened after the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 27 civilians. Both countries have closed the only common open land border and suspended visas. New Delhi has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
On April 29, Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced India's intention to launch military attacks on the country within 24-36 hours. According to him, any act of aggression will be met with a decisive blow.
On May 2, Lavrov, together with his Indian counterpart Subramaniam Jaishankar, also discussed the aggravation of Indian-Pakistani relations. The Russian Foreign Minister called for a settlement of the differences between New Delhi and Islamabad based on the provisions of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.
