Moscow and Islamabad are preparing a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar. This was reported to Izvestia on Saturday, May 3, at the Russian Embassy in Islamabad.

"There is an active exchange of views, in particular, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Moscow and Islamabad are currently exploring the possibility of organizing a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ishaq Dar in the coming days," the embassy said.

Prior to that, Lavrov also had a telephone conversation with his Indian counterpart Subramaniam Jaishankar. Then the Russian Foreign Minister called on the parties to resolve the differences between India and Pakistan through diplomatic means.

Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad worsened after the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgama in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 27 civilians. Both countries have closed the only common open land border and suspended visas. New Delhi has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
