A 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck southern Chile, and there is a threat of a tsunami. This was reported on May 2 by CNN Chile with reference to the oceanographic and hydrographic service of the Chilean Navy.
According to the seismological service of Chile, published on the social network X, the tremors were recorded at 08:58 local time (15:58 GMT). The epicenter of the earthquake is located about 218 km from the city of Puerto Williams.
As CNN Chile points out, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) of Chile has announced the evacuation of the coastal area in the Magallanes region.
Earlier, on April 24, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred off the coast of the South American state. The seismic event occurred 66 km southwest of the city of Ovalle, which is home to about 77.1 thousand people.
