- The former prime Minister of Moldova pointed to the inaction of Chisinau in the context of the economic crisis

Moldova's economy is in a severe crisis, while the government of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) is not taking sufficient measures to save it. This was announced on May 2 by the former Prime Minister of the republic, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Filat.
"The economic reality of the Republic of Moldova is much worse than the official figures show. Most likely, in 2025 we will register a new economic downturn, and the gross domestic product (GDP) in real terms will fall below the level of 2019 — a dramatic situation hidden behind statistical reports," he wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized in Russia as extremist).
In particular, according to Filat, the real sector of the Moldovan economy has faced significant losses. Agriculture is being destroyed due to lack of irrigation and lack of government support. The industry, in turn, lacks raw materials, the former prime minister noted. Adding to this situation is the massive emigration of the economically active population.
At the same time, Filat believes that the Moldovan government sees state financial resources solely as its own "electoral ATM." Chisinau refuses to invest in industry, infrastructure or human capital. Loans worth hundreds of millions of euros are going nowhere, the politician noted.
"The reality is harsh: Moldova is going through a deep economic crisis, and the PAS government is helping it passively, without having a vision and solutions," Filat concluded.
Earlier, on April 30, former Moldovan president and leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said that Chisinau's anti-Russian course had brought the country's economy into a coma. According to him, President Maia Sandu has driven the republic into such debts that there are not even enough external sources of financing to pay them.
