Istanbul Court arrests 18 more people in corruption case against Imamoglu


An Istanbul court has arrested 18 more suspects who are being investigated for corruption against the mayor of Ekrem Imamoglu. Anadolu Ajansi informed about this on April 29.
"18 of the 30 suspects brought to court have been arrested in the course of operations conducted in three provinces as part of a corruption investigation against the mayor of Istanbul," the publication says.
The corruption investigation against Imamoglu continues under such articles as "Leadership of a criminal organization", "Membership in a criminal organization", "Extortion", "Bribery", "Aggravated fraud", "Illegal receipt of personal data" and "Falsification of the tender".
After carrying out all the necessary procedures, the suspects were sent from the police station to the courthouse in Istanbul, where further proceedings took place. As a result, it was decided to arrest 18 suspects. Various judicial control measures were also applied to 12 of them. The total number of detainees in the case has reached 52 people.
Law enforcement agencies issued a warrant for Imamoglu's detention on March 19. An anti-corruption operation has been launched against the Istanbul administration. The mayor of the city was arrested on March 23. After that, the country's Interior Ministry reported that Imamoglu had been temporarily suspended from his duties.
Mass protests began in Turkey against the background of Imamoglu's arrest.
