Media reported on shootings on the borders of India and Pakistan
Gunfights between the Indian and Pakistani military took place at night on the demarcation line between India and Pakistan in Kashmir. This was reported on April 29 by NDTV TV channel with reference to the statement of the Indian Armed Forces.
"The shooting, which occurred against the background of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, occurred near the areas located opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts, as well as the Akhnur sector," the publication clarifies.
It is reported that the Indian military responded to the shelling "in a balanced and effective manner." There was no information about the victims.
On April 27, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the country has no plans to start a military conflict against India without escalation. Asif added that India would face a "more than proportional response" if it attempted to invade Pakistan or attack the country.
Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad worsened after the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 27 civilians. Both countries have closed the only common open land border and suspended visas. New Delhi has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to NDTV, on April 24, Indian soldiers recorded small arms fire at border posts from Pakistan. Two days later, on April 26, it became known about a new exchange of fire on the border line in the Kashmir Valley between the Indian and Pakistani militaries. It was clarified that the Pakistani military was put on high alert after the Indian authorities announced the persecution of the terrorists who staged the shooting in Pahalgam.
