Degtyarev pointed to the approach of Russian sports to the lifting of sanctions

The political situation in the world indicates that Russian sports is approaching the lifting of sanctions. This was announced on April 29 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), during the federal educational marathon "Knowledge. According to him, most European officials advocate the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions.

"We have intensified our legal work. <...> We make claims in a legal way, that is, we speak their language. In general, common sense and the political situation suggest that everything will be fine," the minister said.

Degtyarev also stressed that, despite the optimistic forecast, many Russian athletes will still not be able to qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

"We will be in Italy for the Winter Games, but most likely in a truncated format due to the fact that this situation has dragged on," he concluded.
