Clashes broke out between Druze and Sunni Muslims in the vicinity of Damascus, killing at least 13 people. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 29.

"More than a dozen people were killed on Tuesday in a predominantly Druze town near the Syrian capital in clashes sparked by an alleged recording of a Druze cursing the Prophet Muhammad," it said.

According to Reuters, this behavior angered local Sunni Muslims. The clashes began at night when militants from the nearby town of Malikha and other Sunni areas gathered in the Druze town of Jaramana, southeast of Damascus. Fighting broke out there with the use of small arms.

In early March, large-scale clashes took place in Syria in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, during which more than 240 civilians and over 230 fighters of the Syrian security forces were killed. Particularly intense fighting broke out in the city of Banias.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 10 that the outbreak of violence in Syria is of deep concern to the Russian Federation. He called for such acts to be stopped in the country as soon as possible.
