Net capital outflow from the Russian Federation decreased to $47 billion by the end of 2024, according to data from the Higher School of Economics, which was reviewed by Izvestia on April 29. In 2023, the figure was $52 billion.

Private sector capital outflow refers to legitimate financial transactions involving investments by residents of the Russian Federation (citizens and companies) in foreign assets and securities, the transfer of funds to foreign banks and the purchase of foreign currency.

The head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, previously urged not to confuse these transactions with the withdrawal of money from the Russian Federation on suspicious grounds.

When compared with the net capital outflow in 2022, the figure is now several times lower. For the whole of 2022, it reached $243 billion, or 13.5% of GDP, experts from the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-term Forecasting (CIACP) estimated earlier.

Last year, on November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the head of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) Daniil Egorov, noted that tax revenues to the Russian budget system for 10 months of 2024 amounted to almost 46 trillion rubles. The figure is about 20% higher than in the same period of 2023.
