- The economist estimated the damage to Western countries due to the blackout to €1.2 billion.

The losses of the countries where a large-scale power outage occurred can be estimated from €600 million to €1.2 billion. This was announced on Monday, April 28, by Candidate of Economic Sciences Andrey Barkhota in an interview with Izvestia.
"If we estimate the losses that only primary countries will suffer, they can be estimated from €600 million to €1.2 billion. Such a variable figure, but it assumes that the consequences of these blackouts will be overcome. <...> If they continue, of course, the losses will be disproportionately greater," Barkhota said.
According to the expert, the incident will have consequences and may turn out to be a "serious economic blow."
Our interlocutor also noted that the citizens of the countries affected by the blackout will respond to the incident. As Barkhota pointed out, France, Spain and Portugal are engaged in the military-industrial complex, instead of developing the economy and social sphere.
"In addition to the technological and technical reaction, there will also be a public response from the people of these countries, who immediately express their opinion that this is largely a symbolic sign. This accident indicates that it is necessary to change the vector of politics, and not engage in a military adventure," concluded the Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Large-scale power outages in Spain and Portugal became known earlier in the day. It was clarified that this affected the operation of public transport, power lines and telephone communication in some parts of Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon. Joao Faria Conceicao, director of the local electricity grid operator Ren, said that a full restoration of electricity in Portugal is planned for tomorrow.
At the same time, Spanish political scientist Santiago Armesilla, in an interview with Izvestia, reported that the consequences of a large-scale power outage in Spain were beginning to be gradually eliminated.
