Power outage in Spain and Portugal — what happened

Large-scale power outages affecting most of Spain and the whole of Portugal were reported by the media on April 28. According to Bloomberg, the accident began in the afternoon local time (around 13:00 Moscow time), when the capacity of the Spanish electricity grids suddenly dropped by almost 10 GW, that is, more than a third of the total consumption in the country for the day.

The power outage took millions of people by surprise, paralyzing public transport, airports, and telephone service.
