- The matches of the Masters tournament in Madrid were interrupted due to a malfunction in the country's energy system.

The matches of the Masters tournament in Madrid had to be interrupted due to massive power outages in Spain and Portugal. This was announced on April 28 by the press service of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
"The ATP Masters tournament hosted two singles matches and one doubles match, when at 12:34 local time (13:34 GMT. — Ed.), electricity was cut off," the organization's website says.
It is noted that the game between Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov and Jacob Fearnley from Great Britain was suspended because the spider camera hovered over the court, and the systems for detecting the ball hitting the field stopped working properly.
Large-scale power outages in Spain and Portugal became known earlier in the day. It was clarified that this affected the operation of public transport, power lines and telephone communication in some parts of Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon. Later, Spanish and Portuguese media reported that specialists had already begun work on restoring power supply.
