FT reported on the possible signing of a resource deal between the United States and Ukraine this week

Washington and Kiev may sign a framework agreement on Ukraine's mineral resources and energy assets this week. This was reported on April 28 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

According to the newspaper, Kiev has achieved a significant concession from the administration of US President Donald Trump in the form of a waiver of accounting for past military assistance.

It is indicated that the concluded framework agreement applies to all minerals, including oil and gas, as well as to major energy assets throughout Ukraine.

According to FT, Trump considered the so-called mining deal for the joint development of rare earth metals and other natural resources of Ukraine as a way to reimburse billions of dollars of military aid sent to Kiev during the Joe Biden administration. In addition, the American leader hoped to put pressure on Zelensky to start larger-scale peace talks.

On Sunday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said he had held an "important meeting" with U.S. Treasury Secretary Vincent to discuss the final details of the agreement.

"The legal teams are working on the document. We have made significant progress," said Shmyhal.

Earlier, on April 27, Mike Waltz, the national security adviser to the American leader, said that Trump was determined to conclude a deal with Ukraine on minerals. According to him, the negotiators are working hard to conclude an agreement.

On April 18, Kiev and Washington signed a memorandum on a resource deal. The Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Sviridenko, added that the next step is to develop the final content of the agreement and conclude it.

On April 11, it was reported that the new draft resource deal between Kiev and Washington does not contain provisions on guarantees of Ukraine's security, despite the demands of the Kiev regime. In addition, the draft agreement also tightens the conditions already put forward before.
