The US Secretary of State stated the need for guarantees in a peace deal on Ukraine

A peace deal to resolve the crisis in Ukraine should be based on verification mechanisms and mutual guarantees, not on trust between the parties. This was announced on April 27 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with NBC News.
"I don't think peace deals are based on trust. I think peace deals should be based on verification. They should be based on facts, actions and realities," Rubio said.
The US Secretary of State added that security and verification issues are being actively discussed during consultations on resolving the situation in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump told Estonian leader Alar Karis that a settlement of the Ukrainian issue was imminent. The head of Estonia said that during a conversation with Trump in the Vatican, he asked the head of the White House how the peace process was going, and also asked the American president not to withdraw from the negotiation process on Ukraine.
On April 25, Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky met before the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican. This meeting was the first since the public skirmish between Trump and Zelensky at the White House on February 28. Zelensky called the meeting with Trump good and thanked him, expressing hope for "achieving common results." The White House also assessed the conversation as productive.
