American leader Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met before the funeral of Pope Francis. This was announced on April 26 by Stephen Chung, Assistant to the President of the United States for Communications.

"President Trump and President Zelensky met privately today and had a very productive conversation. New details of the meeting will be provided later," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.

According to Sky News, the leaders agreed to have a second conversation after the pope's funeral. It is noted that today's meeting was the first since the public skirmish between Trump and Zelensky at the White House on February 28.

In addition, according to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Trump was scheduled to hold talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Rome. At the same time, the American leader is expected to leave shortly after the funeral, at 14:30 Moscow time.

A day earlier, La Repubblica reported that Kiev intends to organize a summit on Ukrainian issues on the day of Francis' funeral with the participation of representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Italy and France. At the same time, it was pointed out that the Italian authorities oppose this initiative due to logistical difficulties.

A total of 50 heads of state attended the Pope's funeral in Rome on April 26. Russia is represented at the ceremony by Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova.

Pope Francis died on the morning of April 21 at the age of 89. According to Professor Andrea Archangeli, director of the Vatican's Office of Health and Hygiene, death occurred as a result of a cerebral stroke. On the occasion of his death, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to the Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church to Farrell.
