Seismologist predicted new tremors in Turkey after earthquake

Peter Shebalin, Director of the Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, predicted new tremors after the earthquake in Turkey.
"There will definitely be more repetitions, weak tremors, perhaps people won't even feel them. And with regard to stronger tremors, no one can say for sure," the expert said in an interview with aif.ru Thursday, April 24th.
On the same day, Turkish seismologist Ahmet Ercan said that the earthquake in Istanbul was a harbinger of a larger one. According to him, an earthquake of magnitude 7-7.2 in Turkey is likely to occur between 2045 and 2075 in the Thrace region, and the expected tremors will be 22 times stronger, writes RT. The seismologist reassured citizens living in houses built after 1999. He noted that stricter regulations for the construction of houses were adopted that year, writes IA Regnum.
On April 23, a powerful earthquake struck Silivri in Istanbul province. The magnitude was 6.2. The tremors, which lasted 10-15 seconds, were felt not only in Istanbul, but also in neighboring areas, the website reports kp.ru .
As a result, 236 people were injured. The authorities urged citizens not to enter the damaged buildings.
