A building collapsed in Istanbul as a result of an earthquake

After the earthquake in Istanbul, an abandoned building in the Fatih district collapsed, there were no fatalities. This was announced by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya at a briefing on April 23.

"With such a serious earthquake, there are no casualties or injured people up to this point," he said at the event, which was broadcast on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the Interior Minister, experts recorded 127 aftershocks in five hours. In addition, residents of nine houses were evacuated due to the risk of collapse.

Earlier in the day, the first 3.9 magnitude tremors were recorded at 12:13 p.m. (local time, coincides with Moscow time) off the coast of Istanbul's Silivri district. The depth of the earthquake was 6.99 km. Aftershocks followed the earthquake.

Russian tourist Olga Delitsina told Izvestia that she did not feel any tremors during the earthquake in Istanbul. According to her, the fluctuations at that moment felt like a gust of wind.
