Turkish citizens should be prepared for a new earthquake in Istanbul, which could occur at any moment. This was announced on April 23 by the Speaker of the country's parliament, Numan Kurtulmus.

"The expected earthquake in Istanbul is already on the threshold. Our institutions, our nation, all of us must be ready to overcome a possible earthquake with the least losses," Anadolu agency quoted him as saying.

Kurtulmus also wished a speedy recovery to all those affected by the disaster in the city.

On the afternoon of April 23, three earthquakes occurred in Turkey. The first 3.9-magnitude tremors were recorded off the coast of Istanbul's Silivri district. After that, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Istanbul. Next, a magnitude 4.4 seismic event was recorded off the coast of Buyukcekmece in the Sea of Marmara.

According to seismologists from the Turkish Disaster Management Authority (AFAD), about 30 more two- to five-magnitude aftershocks occurred after the earthquake off the coast of the Marmara Sea.
