The Parliament of Belarus urged to prevent the rewriting of history

The National Assembly (Parliament) of Belarus has adopted a statement in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the BelTA news agency on April 23.
"Attempts to rewrite history, whitewash Nazism, and glorify fascists and their accomplices are unacceptable. We, the heirs of the victorious generation, are obliged to protect the historical truth," the statement says.
It is also noted that the Great Patriotic War became one of the most tragic and heroic periods in world history and the history of the Belarusian people, it claimed millions of lives and left deep wounds in the hearts of people.
The statement says that preserving the memory of the exploits of the peoples who opposed Nazism is the key to "the non-repetition of new large-scale bloody wars." The Belarusian parliament stressed the importance of diplomatic settlement of emerging conflicts and uniting countries in the struggle for peace.
On April 16, the press service of the German Bundestag administration reported that the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus were not invited to a solemn event commemorating the end of World War II. They clarified that such a decision is based on the assessment of the federal government.
