Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko pointed out the depth of the moral decline of the European Union (EU) after threats to European politicians who want to come to Moscow for the May 9 celebrations. He announced this on April 22 during a round table of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

"Sometimes it's a shame that our enemies have people on the other side who dare to give advice and threaten those who want to come to Moscow. This shows the depth of the moral, political and any other decline of those people who are on the other side," Grushko stressed.

He added that EU politicians have staged an ideological struggle around the event, which is sacred to many people. According to him, this indicates the policy pursued by the West of dehumanizing and erasing historical memory in order to introduce new narratives that would justify the militarization of Europe.

On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the courage of politicians from the EU countries who will come to Moscow for the celebration on May 9. The Russian leader noted that in this way the heads of European countries will be able to celebrate the historical merits of people who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism.

Earlier, on April 14, EU Foreign Affairs Representative Kaya Kallas warned European officials that if they visited Russia to participate in Victory celebrations, they would face "consequences."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called her statement harsh and incorrect, and also noted that such threats should be assessed by those states to which they are addressed.
