Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law according to which members of volunteer formations who have participated in hostilities for six months are exempt from conscription. The relevant document was published on April 21 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

It is clarified that according to the amendments, Russians who were in the volunteer units of the Ministry of Defense and who participated in combat operations, counter-terrorism activities or performed tasks outside the country for at least six months will not be subject to conscription. A draft deferral is also granted for the period of service in such formations.

Separately, the law emphasizes that Russian citizens who served in the armed forces of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) will be exempt from conscription. It is specified that we are talking about those who took part in the fighting since May 11, 2014.

Earlier in the day, Putin signed a law on the status of a combat veteran for those who participated in battles in the territories adjacent to the areas of the special military operation. In addition, the status of a combat veteran will be extended to persons who have joined volunteer formations created by decision of the authorities, which contribute to the fulfillment of the tasks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
