The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized Trump's trade duties

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce strongly condemns the trade duties imposed by US President Donald Trump. A representative of the department told Xinhua news agency about this on April 21.
"China believes that all parties should stand on the side of fairness and justice, on the side of historical justice, and protect international economic and trade rules and the multilateral trading system on the issue of 'mutual tariffs,'" the source said.
However, he added that if any party makes a deal to the detriment of the interests of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese authorities reserve the right to take retaliatory measures. The determination of the State to protect its national interests is also noted.
"As soon as international trade returns to the 'law of the jungle,' where the strong prey on the weak, all countries will become victims," the source warned.
On February 1, US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. At the same time, he promised to impose duties on goods from the EU. With this decision, Trump seeks to reduce the flow of the opioid fentanyl across the border, as well as migrants.
Chinese economist Andrew Leung, in turn, told Izvestia that the tariffs that Trump is imposing on imports from China and Mexico will lead to an increase in consumer prices in the United States itself.
