The US President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) before negotiations with Iran on the nuclear program. This was announced on April 19 by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid.

"Witkoff met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Rome on Saturday morning before the nuclear talks with Iran, an informed source said," Ravid wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier, on April 19, the second stage of negotiations between Iran and the United States on the nuclear program took place. The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. Washington was represented by Witkoff.

On November 22, 2024, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced its intentions to commission a significant number of new modernized centrifuges for uranium enrichment as a response to the anti-Iran resolution adopted by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

On November 21, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution criticizing Iran. At that time, the United States expressed deep concern to the IAEA board about Tehran's nuclear activities.
