- A group of Ukrainian Armed Forces militants surrendered to Russian fighters in the Kursk region

A group of militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) surrendered to a unit of the North group of forces in the Kursk region. This was announced on April 18 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
According to the ministry, more than 10 Ukrainian soldiers were captured, including both career officers and ordinary soldiers.
"The servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison, who were surrounded in the Kursk region, continue to surrender to Russian units, suffering significant losses in manpower and weapons," the ministry noted.
It is noted that the Russian military guarantees respectful treatment to Ukrainian soldiers who have laid down their arms in accordance with international standards.
Vyacheslav Pereberenko, one of the prisoners of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that at a recent meeting on the further actions of his brigade, he was informed about the direction to the Sudzhi ring road, while in the Sumy region.
"I was the only one who asked the question, I say, and then what? Why go there and then what? The battalion commander did not answer me," he shared.
Yushchenko added that this was his second meeting with the commander, he did not know any of the officers, which increased the tension. His questions remained without clear answers, highlighting the uncertainty and fear that military personnel face in combat.
On the same day, Ukrainian prisoner Roman Zayats said that the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine joined the army because of money or the repayment of a criminal record. At the same time, he stressed that among prisoners, only those whose remaining term of imprisonment does not exceed five years have the opportunity to join the army.
