Trade wars affect the economic order of the world. This was announced on April 17 by Chinese President Xi Jinping at a meeting with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen in Phnom Penh.

"Trade wars undermine the multilateral trading system and destroy the global economic order. Countries need to unite, firmly hold national security issues and the right to their own development in their hands," Xi Jinping said, quoted by RIA Novosti.

In addition, he pointed out that countries should adhere to the principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit and common development. The Chinese President also stressed that it is necessary to jointly build the destiny of humanity.

Earlier in the day, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that China is seeking economic rapprochement with the European Union (EU) amid a trade war with the United States. According to the newspaper, China sent trade delegations to European capitals. In addition, Chinese factories are already exploring the possibility of redirecting products to the continent's markets.

On April 9, US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of duties imposed on a number of countries for 90 days. The head of state also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%. On April 10, this figure reached 145%.
