Peeling of the skin may indicate a deficiency of vitamins and trace elements. In addition, many people in the pursuit of clean skin too often use scrubs and peels at home, which severely dry the skin. Olga Andrianova, a cosmetologist and dermatologist at SM-Cosmetology, told Izvestia about this on April 18.

She explained that peeling and dryness of the skin are quite common complaints at a doctor's appointment. Also, according to her, there may be a variety of reasons for this problem.

"The first and most common reason is improper skin care. It is important to understand that care products in each case should be selected individually, and only a specialist can do this. Otherwise, the existing problems can only worsen," the dermatologist warned.

In addition, many people often use scrubs and peels at home or are addicted to alcohol—containing lotions, antiseptics, and alkaline soaps - products that dry the skin heavily. Meanwhile, on the contrary, they forget about the protective cream from the sun, frost and wind.

The doctor noted that the second common cause of dryness and peeling of the skin is the presence of a deficiency of vitamins and trace elements: iron, ferritin, vitamins B, E, folic acid, or chronic diseases: neurodermatitis, xerosis, endocrine diseases, gastrointestinal diseases.

"In this case, it is necessary to find out how long ago this problem arose in the patient and clearly understand whether dry skin is a condition or whether it has been like this since childhood. To do this, the sebaceous glands are evaluated using diagnostics," the specialist clarified.

However, you can resort to a proven method. Andrianova told me how to check if there are problems with the sebaceous glands on your own. It is necessary to wash your face with clean water and after 15-20 minutes firmly press a paper napkin to it. A symptom of dehydration will be the complete absence of fat spots on the napkin, which means that the sebaceous glands are working in a "conservation mode."

The dermatologist explained: if the skin is dry, this is the skin type. In this case, cosmetic procedures and special home care are selected. If dryness is a temporary phenomenon, for example, only certain areas on the skin of the face dry out, treatment is often based on eliminating the cause.

"This can be the treatment of the underlying disease that caused the dehydration of the skin, the restoration of water balance with the help of a drinking regime, the regulation of sebaceous glands through proper home care, vitamin therapy — vitamin complexes of group B, E, C, symptomatic local therapy — for skin manifestations, the exclusion of provoking exogenous effects, if this is associated, for example, with work on the air," said the cosmetologist.

However, if dry skin appears in the spring, then first of all you need to adjust your diet.

According to the expert, to normalize the sebaceous glands, the menu should include products with a high content of Omega polyunsaturated fatty acids: flaxseed, sea fish, avocado, rapeseed oil. Check the protein level and, if the value is less than 70, drink a course of marine collagen (a dosage of at least 6600 mg). Omega pharmacy complexes and fish oil, available in capsule form, will be a good addition to the diet.

"Secondly, to start using cosmetics with a high content of hygroscopic humectant — hyaluronic acid. Thirdly, remove aggressive particles from the care and entrust facial cleanses and peels to professionals. Fourth, replace the shower gel or soap with oil or milk for sensitive skin," the doctor suggested.

In addition, she advised to undergo a skin diagnosis, make a care plan with a doctor using invasive and hardware techniques to maintain youth and beauty. Such procedures include: mesotherapy, vacuum hydropilling, collagen treatments, biorevitalization, exosome treatments.

Earlier, on April 12, Svetlana Petrova, a dermatologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, told Izvestia about the mandatory rules for sun protection. She explained that sunscreens should be applied 15 minutes before going outside to all exposed areas of the body: face, arms, neck and other areas not covered by clothing. In addition, when actively staying in the sun, especially on the beach, the cream needs to be renewed every 1.5–2 hours or after each swim. However, in urban environments, with periodic outdoor activities, re-application is usually not required.
