The media learned about Israel's plans to strike Iran's nuclear facilities

Israel had planned an attack on Iran's nuclear infrastructure in May this year, but US President Donald Trump rejected this initiative in favor of negotiations with Tehran. This was reported on April 16 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources from the White House.
"Israeli officials have recently developed plans to attack Iranian nuclear facilities in May. They were ready for their implementation and at times optimistically expected that the United States would support them," the publication says.
As indicated, if the initiative was implemented, Tel Aviv needed Washington's help to protect itself from Tehran's retaliatory strikes and for the overall success of the plan to reduce Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons.
However, the American leader "preferred diplomacy to military action," the newspaper writes.
At the end of March 2025, Trump threatened Iran with a military attack and secondary duties if Tehran did not conclude an agreement with Washington on the nuclear program.
On April 12, the delegations of Iran and the United States held the first round of talks in Muscat, the meeting focused on the Iranian nuclear program and American sanctions. The parties agreed to continue contacts on April 19 to discuss a possible agreement.
On April 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia could become one of the guarantors of the agreement between Iran and the United States on the Iranian nuclear program, but this would depend on the further course of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
