US President Donald Trump may interfere in decision-making in the European Union (EU) so that the union refuses to support Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. Natalia Eliseeva, a political scientist, political strategist and publicist, shared this opinion in an interview with Izvestia on April 16.

On that day, Politico reported that Trump and his team did not like Zelensky's support from the European Union (EU) after his scandalous meeting with the American leader in the Oval Office.

She noted that the position of the European Union in the new geopolitical conditions is quite belligerent, but it is not fully formed.

"They will support Zelensky simply because they have not yet formed a position. They can't roll back," she stressed.

According to her, the change of rhetoric in the United States was logical — a new administration came to the White House.

"Things are somewhat different in the European Union. And it won't work that way. And that's why they still don't understand what to do. Moreover, they are so rigid that they still continue their aggressive policy towards Russia, as well as continue to support Zelensky," Yeliseyeva said.

The political scientist stressed that if the EU continues its appropriate rhetoric, it will force Trump to intervene.

"Trump will have to step in anyway. To interfere in European governance, in decision-making in the EU, to talk, I apologize for that word, to threaten. All this is still waiting for us. Because so far it's just a swing. Unless, of course, suddenly Trump himself suddenly changes his position," the expert noted.

During the meeting between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office on February 28, a verbal altercation took place. The US president accused the Ukrainian leader of disrespecting the American administration, and also said that the politician was "playing with the lives of millions of people and the Third World War." He stressed that the Ukrainian side would still have to compromise — Zelensky did not agree with him.

U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, who attended the meeting of the two leaders, also criticized the President of Ukraine.
