The West has disappeared in the usual sense. This statement was made on Tuesday, April 15, by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"The West as we knew it no longer exists," she said in an interview with Zeit.

Thus, the EC President answered the question about the possible leadership of the European Union (EU) in the Western world.

She noted that she currently has to conduct a large number of negotiations with leaders of different countries and governments from all over the world.

At the same time, Von der Leyen argues that the European Union needs significant changes so that it can be of great importance in shaping a new world order. In her opinion, the association needs to develop in the defense sector and increase its competitiveness.

In addition, the head of the EC added that she believes in maintaining friendly relations between the United States and Europe.

On March 13, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the head of the European Commission had reprimanded him for negotiations with US President Donald Trump.

Slovak leader Peter Pellegrini said on February 22 that the actions of the new White House administration led by Trump should shake up the European continent. He noted that currently politics uses a language different from the usual one.
