More than 22,000 employees of the US tax service agreed to resign at Trump's request.

About 22,000 employees of the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agreed with the proposal of the administration of US President Donald Trump to resign. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) on Tuesday, April 15.
"Before Trump took office, the IRS employed about 100,000 people. Approximately 5,000 employees have quit since January, and another 7,000 who are on probation have been fired, although these dismissals have been challenged in court," the publication says.
If these layoffs take effect, the agency could lose about a third of its workforce, the NYT writes.
Employees who accept the deal will be placed on paid administrative leave until September, and then will leave their federal positions. At the same time, some employees who have accepted the offer still have the opportunity to refuse to be fired.
On March 29, the media reported on the dismissals of Yale and Harvard employees under pressure from Trump. Higher education institutions are forced to say goodbye to employees because of the government's demand to combat anti-Semitism. Otherwise, they are threatened with being deprived of federal funding. Also earlier, the Harvard School of Public Health suspended its partnership with Birzeit University in the West Bank.
