On the evening of March 4, Washington time (on the night of March 5, Moscow time), US President Donald Trump delivered one of the longest speeches in front of both houses of Congress, which lasted 1.5 hours. During the speech, representatives of the Democratic Party shouted accusations and tried to boo the incumbent president, and Senator Al Green was even removed from the hall. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.

"You have no authority"

Al Green, a congressman from the Democratic Party of the United States, was escorted out of the hall for trying to disrupt Trump's speech: he interrupted the head of the White House several times. Also, during Trump's address, Green shouted from the spot that Trump "has no mandate and authority." As a result, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson ordered the guards to take Green out of the hall.

Al Green later explained his actions. According to him, "it's worth it for the people to know that there are people who are going to stand up to Trump," said the politician, who was escorted out of the hall by security.

After that, representatives of the Republican Party rose and began chanting in support of Trump: "USA, USA, USA."

Al Green added that he did not know if his actions would have any consequences. The senator is considered one of the most consistent opponents of Trump in the US Congress. So, in early February, the congressman announced his intention to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president.

Whistling and offensive slogans

The fact that congressmen from the Democratic Party planned to prevent Trump's speech became known the day before. Various ways were being prepared to disrupt the performance.

Almost immediately after the start of the president's speech, the Democrats began booing him. They held signs reading "save Medicaid" (an American program that helps pay for medical expenses for people with limited income and resources), "protect veterans," and "Musk steals." They also held up signs saying "not true" and "false" to some of Trump's claims.

Some congressmen were going to leave the hall when Trump voiced unacceptable theses, others were going to sit "with a stone face" and not applaud. Some planned to bring posters, eggs, or packages from under them to remind of rising prices, as well as rattles, red cards, and pocket editions of the U.S. Constitution.

Some congresswomen came in pink to draw attention to the negative consequences of the Republican's policies for women.

What Trump talked about before Congress on March 5, 2025

In his speech, Trump touched upon issues of domestic and foreign policy, and devoted part of his speech to the issue of ending the conflict in Ukraine. He also repeated his thesis that he was "saved by the Lord" during two assassination attempts to make America great again.

During his speech, Trump criticized the Democrats and stressed that they never support his initiatives, regardless of the significance of the proposals. According to the politician, for all five of his speeches before the Democratic Congress, "nothing pleased the Democrats, did not make them smile, stand up or applaud."
