Dealers reported increased discounts on Chinese cars in April

About a third of Chinese brands in Russia have increased their discounts on new cars in the amount of 70-100 thousand rubles to keep up with demand. This was stated by Renat Tyukteev, Deputy General Director for New Car Sales at Avilon AG, according to the analytical agency Autostat on April 15. According to him, discounts on cars are now valid for most brands.
In turn, Evgeny Zhitnukhin, commercial director of the Fresh automotive marketplace, pointed out that a number of brands have already revised down the cost of their cars in the Russian Federation. Some brands offer discounts of 5-10% on cars manufactured in 2024, and for unclaimed equipment the discount can reach 15-20%.
At the same time, as Andrey Olkhovsky, CEO of Avtodom Group, noted, discounts will be adjusted when the sale of excess inventory ends. This will lead to an increase in the cost of cars, provoking an even greater drop in demand, he predicts.
Sales of new passenger cars in Russia in March 2025 amounted to 79.8 thousand units, which is 45.5% less than in March last year.
On April 10, it was reported that in January – March 2025, 213 Chinese car dealerships were closed in Russia due to the loss of investors. This is more than in the whole of 2023 (187 car dealerships), and three times more than in the first quarter of last year (67 showrooms).
Before that, on April 7, it became known that the average price of a new car in the first quarter of 2025 was 2.96 million rubles. Compared to the same period last year, Moskvich (-14.7%) and Omoda (-4%) cars lost the most significantly in price among the brands.
