- The media reported on the desire of EU countries to circumvent Hungary's veto when imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation.

At least six European Union (EU) states are considering the possibility of imposing restrictive measures against Russia, bypassing Hungary, which may impose a veto. This was reported by Politico on April 14, citing sources among European diplomats.
"Six diplomats confirmed that at least half a dozen capitals are making joint efforts to include pan—European sanctions against Russia in domestic legislation," the article says.
According to the publication, a number of countries propose to postpone the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions from the pan-European level to the national level.
At the same time, some interlocutors stressed that not all States have the resources and legal capacity to implement sanctions policies individually. Such measures, according to them, will be less effective than the sanctions adopted at the EU level.
On April 11, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said that the possibility that Hungary would be deprived of the right to vote in the European Union (EU) against the background of new sanctions against Moscow was excluded.
He added that Hungarians are interested in peace in Ukraine, as are residents of other countries outside Europe. The continuation of the conflict is supported only in Western Europe.
