Russian rescuers completed mission in Myanmar after earthquake

The last group of rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations flew from Myanmar to Moscow, completing an international rescue operation. This was announced on April 15 by the press service of the department.

"The last group of rescuers of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is returning from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Moscow. There are 50 rescuers and medics on board the Il-76 aircraft," the Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a Telegram channel.

It is specified that during the mission, Russian doctors treated more than 500 patients, including 94 children. The specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations examined more than 130 thousand square meters of rubble in search of survivors. In addition, 157.5 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered to Myanmar to meet the needs of the victims.

Two earthquakes in Myanmar of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 became known on March 28. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The death toll from the earthquake exceeded 3.7 thousand people.

Over 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar on March 29 to provide assistance. So, the department's staff examined 75 buildings in Myanmar in search of people affected by the earthquake. In addition, since the beginning of the rescue work, doctors of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation have performed three complex surgical operations.
