Negotiations between the United States and Japan on the introduction of import duties by American leader Donald Trump will begin in Washington on April 17. This was reported on April 14 by the Japanese NHK TV channel.

According to the newspaper, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will take part in the meeting from the United States, and the country's Minister for Economic Recovery, Ryosei Akazawa, will attend the talks from Japan.

"As for the US tariff measures, on the 17th of this month, Japanese time, the first meeting of the Minister of State for Economic Recovery Akazawa with Finance Minister Bessent is scheduled in Washington," the channel's material says.

It is clarified that the Japanese minister plans to put forward an opinion on the need for the United States to receive "large-scale investments from Japan" for the growth of the state's economy and the availability of jobs.

On April 10, Trump postponed the introduction of duties for 90 days for 75 countries due to the panic of citizens. Bessent, in turn, clarified that almost 70 countries have contacted the presidential administration with a request to hold negotiations on the issue of the duties imposed. According to him, he and U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer are currently negotiating with representatives from Japan.
