In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a car hit two teenagers at a pedestrian crossing, as a result of which one of them died, and the second received multiple injuries. This was announced on April 12 by the press service of the regional state traffic inspectorate.

According to the agency, a driver with signs of alcohol intoxication in a Chevrolet Aveo car drove into the oncoming lane at the time of overtaking vehicles and hit two teenagers. The incident occurred at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. As a result of the incident, the car went into a ditch.

"One of the minor children died at the scene of the accident before the ambulance arrived. The second minor child with multiple injuries was taken to a medical facility," the press service said in a video posted on the Telegram channel.

The press service of the prosecutor's office of the Nizhny Novgorod region clarified that upon the fact of the incident, investigators opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules by a person in a state of intoxication, which negligently caused the death of a person").

Specialists are working at the scene of the incident. Additional circumstances of the accident are being established.

In addition, the press service of the SU IC in the region reported that a suspect in a hit-and-run on two teenagers was detained.

"The 19-year-old driver has been detained as a suspect. It was established that at the time of the accident he was intoxicated," the press service said in a Telegram channel.

On the same day, it was reported that two passenger cars collided on the R-21 Cola highway near the village of Sinyavino, resulting in the death of one person. The accident occurred on the 50th km of the highway.
