The talks between US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arkachi in Oman were productive and constructive. This was announced by the White House on April 12.

"The discussions were very positive and constructive," the Reuters news agency quoted the US administration as saying.

It is specified that this direct meeting between representatives of the United States and Iran was a "step forward" in resolving differences and achieving a mutually beneficial result for both states.

In addition, Trump's special envoy, during a conversation with Arkady, informed him about the instructions of the American leader to resolve the conflict "through diplomacy." According to him, the US president gave instructions for resolving the issue through dialogue.

Earlier in the day, the first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran on lifting sanctions and nuclear issues ended in Oman. During the meeting, Araqchi and Witkoff exchanged the positions of their governments on these issues in the presence of the Omani Foreign Minister. The Iranian Foreign minister, in turn, said that during the second round of negotiations on nuclear issues, Iran will discuss with the United States the framework of possible agreements.

At the same time, the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Bakai, said that the main goal of negotiations with the United States on Iran's part was to ensure the country's national interests. At the current round of negotiations, the parties will only exchange basic positions on the nuclear issue, he noted.
